Ngā kōrero mō Taranaki
Ngā tūmomo waka
In this section we move right along into the comings and goings of Taranaki. Included is the story of the Cape Egmont Lighthouse – how it was shipped here and how it helped keep the coast clear. In the early days of colonial settlement in New Zealand, shipping was the main means of long-haul transport. Taranaki's rugged coast claimed some of these ships and the lives of sailors. Read about the wrecks of the Lord Worsley and the Lizzie Bell. Future stories will investigate early air travel, a lost highway, making inroads through a few gorgeous gorges, Whangamomona to the main trunk line and the ports of Taranaki.
