The powerful story of Parihaka is one of the must-reads of this section. Told through the descendants of that place of non-violence, we learn about life under the leadership of Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kakahi. There is an account of the plundering on 5 November 1881, and another telling why Tim Finn wrote the Parihaka song. The lives of Māori leaders and doctors, Te Rangi Hiroa (Sir Peter Buck) and Sir Maui Pomare are also looked at, along with the background to Waitara's controversial Pekapeka Block. In the future, this section will cover the remarkable life of a 90-year-old Taranaki kaumatua, the many layers of conflict at Pukerangiora Pa, and the stories of prominent Māori chiefs, Wiremu Kingi (Rangitake), Titokowaru and Wiremu Kingi (Matakatea).
