Taranaki Stories
Sport
Brilliant athletes seem to abound in Taranaki. One of the best is a woman who has represented New Zealand in three sports and is rising up the ranks as a coach. From a male perspective, rugby has played a large role in life around the mountain. In this section we look closely at former All Blacks Peter Burke, Graham Mourie and Dave Loveridge – expect some surprising truths! We also find out about rugby mascot Ferdinand the Bull, and reveal how he got his roar. Later, we will talk with a former javelin star, take a walk through the life of an Olympic gold medallist, meet some surf lifesaving stalwarts and uncover a coastal breeding ground for top sportsman. Expect to be kept on your toes.
