  1. The New Plymouth-based photographer, born in 1905, has had his pictures reproduced on 2.25 million postcards.
  2. Robert has won numerous amateur photography awards in New Zealand and overseas.
  3. In 1974, he was commissioned to take photos of the Newmans bus-tour route of the South Island.
  4. Six of Robert's landscape photographs have appeared on six New Zealand stamps - three from the North Island and three from the South Island.
  5. From 1970 to 1980 he was a freelance photographer for the Auckland Weekly News. Up to 23 of Robert's photos have appeared in the resulting Christmas annual.
  6. His work featured in Wendy Pye's Beautiful New Zealand books. Some editions have included as many as 35 of Robert's pictures and he made the cover on a number of occasions.
  7. About 6000 of Robert's negatives and picture proofs are held by the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington.
  8. About 7000 of his negatives are held by Photobank in Auckland and are still selling steadily for use in calendars, adverts and promotions. To date, more than 1700 of his Photobank images have been sold for use nationally and globally.
  9. He has had photographs printed on the front cover of about seven telephone directories around the country.
  10. Robert has also provided 50 front-cover pictures for the Dairy Exporter Magazine and many of his farming photos have appeared in the Tui's Christmas Annual.
  11. In late 1970s was commissioned by New Zealand Historic Places Trust to take photographs of Richmond Cottage in New Plymouth and the Church of the Holy Innocents with graves at Mount Peel Station, near Geraldine in the South Island.
  12. He has five photographs in the 2003 coffee table book Glorious New Zealand.

Mokau River Cruises

Mokau River Cruises takes you up the Mokau River on a three-hour excursion in an historic cream boat - Cygnet. During the summer months, the cruises depart twice daily at 11am and 3pm, and visit the beautiful Mackford Cottage Garden and Weaving Studio. As the self-proclaimed "Whitebait capital of New Zealand", you can also sample this delicacy at the Whitebait Inn in Mokau. The excursion costs $30 for adults, and $15 for children, with scrummy whitebait fritters and omelettes starting at $10. For more information:
