In the 50s and 60s all real Taranaki rugby fans knew the words to the Ferdinand song.  Form a quartet with three mates. Become legends in your own lunchtime. Sing the song to the tune of Robin Hood and then perform it to your class.  Click here to listen to the tune.

Pseudodontornis

Room 13 at West End School asked Puke Ariki's Ron Lambert how big the Pseudodontornis was and what it ate. It's the big bird at Puke Ariki that hangs out near the giant shark.

The Pseudodontornis was big! It had a wingspan of over 5 metres. Compare that to the Wandering Albatross. It holds the wingspan record for any living bird today and it's 3.63m. The Wandering Albatross is 115cm long from the tip of its bill to the tip of its tail and weighs 6.5kg. It's a big bird but the Pseudodontornis would have been a lot longer and heavier. A Pseudodontornis thigh bone has been found and it's 13cm long. This massive bird ate squid and other fish.
