Friends of Puke Ariki (FOPA) has been established to act as a liaison between Puke Ariki and the Community. The aim of FOPA is to assist Puke Ariki with projects, fund raising, and stimulating Community interest in the exhibitions and Taranaki History. FOPA also provides special opportunities for its members to get involved with Puke Ariki, attend special functions, openings, Taranaki tours and lectures.

FOPA was originally established in 1959 as the Friends of the Taranaki Museum and changed to the Friends of Puke Ariki in 2003 after the opening of the new library, museum, and learning centre complex.
Previously the Friends of the Taranaki Museum and FOPA have taken an active role in providing services to its members including presenting a Winter Lecture Series, organising tours of Taranaki historical sites, purchasing and preparing special exhibits, attending exhibit openings and special exhibit educational visits.

To raise funds for Puke Ariki and provide a service to the Community a FOPA merchandising sub Committee prepares, markets and sells items, books and paintings of historical interest.
FOPA is involved with funding applications for Puke Ariki from various grants and was recently successful with the application for substantial funds to allow the Puke Ariki Learning Centre to continue.
