Arranged around the theme of a concept house, The Secret Garden lifts its veil to reveal glimpses of abundance within the home kitchen, bathroom and bedroom and outside, of a settler garden containing a veritable cornucopia of vegetables, history and herbs. An ornamental garden blossoms with bursting blooms, inspiring insects and gorgeous garden art and sculpture. There is also a bush backyard to explore featuring cool, damp and green native plants, restful garden nooks and curious creatures with conservation messages.
Find Dad in the tool shed learning the stories about Taranaki implements and the technology used to develop some of the most innovative inventions in gardens today. The Secret Garden reveals its special stories through interactive and audio visual material, items from the extensive Puke Ariki collection and exceptional local artwork, showing the role gardens play and the close relationships people have with plants.
Soak up the atmosphere created with a clever amalgamation of set work, lighting and design. Humans can escape the humdrum and immerse themselves in the soothing sights, sweet scents and tantalising tastes awaiting them there. Take you, a kid or the clan and discover what's really going on in The Secret Garden.
Secret Garden runs: 17 October 2004 - 3 April 2005.
