Treasures
Main Gallery - Golden Needle - Colour and Costume of Yunnan

1 July - 7 October 2007
Main Exhibition Gallery, North Wing

A stunning exhibition of costumes, jewellery and ceremonial arms will grace the main exhibition gallery until Sunday 7 October.

'Golden Needle - Colour and Costume of Yunnan' showcases an outstanding collection of textile and jewellery design from Yunnan Provincial Museum in Kunming, South West China.

With a total population of 40 million people and home to 26 nationalities, the multi-cultural influences in Yunnan are apparent in the styles of clothing and textiles featured.

Bill Macnaught, Manager of Puke Ariki, is delighted that Puke Ariki has the opportunity to showcase the objects from Kunming.

"We are very happy to have developed a good working relationship with the Yunnan Provincial Museum and it's exciting to welcome to Puke Ariki these outstanding items from their collection. It is also a superb chance to strengthen our sister city relationship with Kunming", Mr Macnaught says.
